George Daniel

George Daniel began fly fishing at age 6 while growing up in Potter County, PA and credits Joe Humphreys for the bulk of his knowledge along with many national and international fly fishing professionals.

George has been seen on ESPN and OLN while competing in the Great Outdoor Games and the Fly Fishing Masters.

George is a two-time US National Fly Fishing Champion and a former member of Fly Fishing Team USA. Currently, he is the head coach for the NC Fly Fishing Team and is employed by the TCO State College Fly

George’s passion is in fly fishing education, where he conducts lectures/seminars throughout the country. He logs over 200 days a year on trout waters near and far. George is the author of the best selling book, “Dynamic Nymphing” along with being published in Fly Fisherman and Fly Tyer magazine. George currently resides in Lamar, PA with his wife, Amidea and their two children along with their two golden retrievers that answer to the names Helios and Madison.

He’s pro staffer for a number of fly fishing companies including Simms, Orvis Fly Rods, Scientific Anglers, Smith Optics, Lamson Reels, Loon, Regal Vises. Also, George is an Umpqua Flies contract fly designer.

New Meeting Location for SJRVFF

November’s meeting date has been changed. We will be meeting on the first Wednesday this month as to avoid conflicting with Thanksgiving travel.

SJRVFF is moving our monthly meeting location. The new location is the Upper Deck inside of the Stanley Coveleski Stadium in downtown South Bend. (map)

Parking is in Parking Lot “A” on the NW corner of Taylor St. and South St. Please use main office entrance and not the gates to the stadium. Meeting times will remain the same- open at 6:30 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm with the meeting and speaker to follow dinner. The cost for dinner is now $10.00 per person and a cash bar will be available. Pease, no “BYOB”. I look forward to the new location better meeting our needs.

It has been a while since we fished on some southern Michigan trout water. So, lets fish this week at Dodd Park in Dowagiac, MI.

From Niles, MI. take M-51 north to Kinzie St. Left (East) on Kinzie to Creek Rd. Right (North) on Creek Rd. to  Dodd Park.

From the Edwardsburg, MI. take Dailey Rd. North to White St. Left (East) on White St. to Anderson Rd. Left (South) on Anderson Rd to White St. Right (East) on White St to M-51. Left (South) on M-51 to Kinzie St. Right(East) on Kinzie St to Creek Rd. Right (North) on Creek Rd to Dodd Park.

**Note the time change** This wednesday night we will be fishing on the St. Joseph River  at Kamm’s Island in Mishawaka, IN.  The best place to park is at Immigrant Park (Ironworks) on the south side of the river  west of Main St.

DIRECTIONS: Main St. to front St. (south side of the St. Joseph River) then west to parking lot (in front of new suspension foot bridge). from there you can access the east end of Kamm’s Island or fish the river between Main St. and Kamm’s Island.

This week we will be at Pinhook Park on St. Joe River in South Bend.  Pinhook Park is located in South Bend, IN. on Riverside Dr. just south of Cleveland Rd.

Directions: Take Cleveland Rd. to Riverside Dr. and then south to Pinhook Park or take Portage Av. north to Woodlawn Blvd. turn east on Woodlawn Blvd to Riverside Dr. then north to Pinhook Park. Parking is on Riverside Dr. Just south of the main park.

It is time for something new. This week we will be fishing on the Little Elkhart River northwest of Middlebury, IN.  where County Road 35 crosses over the Little Elkhart. Park along County Road 35 or at the church on the corner of County Road 35 and County Road 8. Access the river at the bridge.

 

Directions:

State Road 120 (east of Bristol, IN. or west of State Road 13-Middlebury Toll Rd exit) to County Road 35 then south to river

This weeks Wednesday Night Fishing destination will be Island Park in Niles, MI.

Directions:

Island Park is located South of Grant St. in Niles, MI., on the west side of the St. Joseph River. Parking is on Parkway St. between Grant St. and French St. There is a foot bridge that will take you to the island.

Smallmouth Outing – Sunday, August 19

This years SJRVFF Smallmouth Outing will be held at Kamm Island Park in Mishawaka, IN. on Sunday August 19th, 2012. Kamm Island Park (map) is located just west of main st. on the south side of the St. Joseph River and is accessable via foot bridges (sorry, no parking on island). Parking is available at the 100 Center on Lincolnway (south of Kamm Island Park) or at the Robert C. Buetter Riverfront Park ( east of Kamm Island Park) on Front St.
 
Lunch and drinks will be provided (sorry, no alcohol is permitted) and will be ready at 12:00 noon. Come and fish in the morning and stay for lunch, come for lunch and fish in the afternoon, or fish all day and take a break for lunch.
 
This event is open to all who would like to attend and I would encourage anyone who is new to the sport of fly fishing or new to SJRVFF to join us regardless of you ability level as this is a great opportunity to meet other club members and get some great info about fly fishing for “smallies on the Joe”

Directions: Leeper Park is located off of N Michigan St in down town South Bend just south of where N Michigan St. Crosses over the St. Joseph River.  Take N. Michigan St to Bartlett St. Turn east on Bartlett St and go to end. Parking is along the river.

This week we will be at Mottville, MI (Map). to fish for smallies on the Joe.

Directions:

From the Indiana Toll Road take the Bristol, IN, exit and head north on State Road 15 /Michigan 103 to US Hwy 12 in Mottville. Turn east on us Hwy 12 to Riverside Dr. (first road on the left). Take Riverside Dr. approx 1/8 mile to public access site (small park) on north side of Riverside Dr and you are there. For those who would bring US Hwy 12 from the Edwardsburg/Union areas, you may want to consider an alternate route as I beleive that Us Hwy 12 is under construction in Union.
