Date: March 5th & 6th, 2016

Location: The Elkhart Conservation Club

Cost:  $100.00 per tier

SJRVFF is hosting a fly tying seminar with Charlie Craven on March 5th & 6th, 2016.

The seminar will be limited to 30 tiers total and will be broken down into two one day classes (15 tiers on Saturday March 5th, 2016 and 15 tiers on Sunday March 6th, 2016). Both classes will cover the same content so there is no need to attend both days unless that is what you want to do. The cost for the seminar is $100.00 per tier ($200.00 if you for some reason you want to attend both Saturday and Sunday classes). And will include materials needed for the class, lunch, and beverages. Each tier attending the class will need to bring their own tying equipment (vise, tools, lamp, thread, etc.).

Please note that this is not a beginner level seminar and each tier will need to know basic fly tying techniques prior to the class.

The seminar will cover patterns and techniques that Charlie has developed thru many years of commercial tying and guiding.

If you would like additional information or would like to reserve a seat please contact me at 574-202-0255 or [email protected]

SJRVFF WELCOMES ONE AND ALL…

The December meeting is a time to celebrate the past year. We will do that by giving out several awards to some very deserving members. Some are
deserving for their good deeds, some are given for their less fortunate experiences. Along with the awards, a few of our members will be sharing
presentations on some memorable trips from the past season. These presentations are sure to include pictures of beautiful places and the obligatory
grip and grin shots. It’ll be just like telling stories with your buddies while sitting around a campfire, except without the campfire. And the addition of pictures. And better food. And a raffle. And a comfortable seat.

SJRVFF Welcomes Pat Ehlers

Capt. Pat Ehlers lives in Franklin, WI. Pat opened his fly shop, The Fly Fishers Inc. in 1988. Pat has guided throughout Wisconsin and the Great Lakes as well as in Montana and Alaska.

Pat is a member of the Echo Fly Rod Co. Design Team (Vancouver, WA) and designed a line of fly rods developed for warm-water fly-fishing, the Echo Edge84 for Tim Rajeff owner of Echo Fly Rods. He also has designed a series of fly lines, The Bass/Muskie line for the Airflo Fly Line Co. of England. Pat is a contract /royalty fly tier and consultant for Rainy’s Flies of Logan, Utah and has designed fly tying tools bearing his name for the Renzetti Co. of Titusville, Florida. He is a regular contributor to Northwest Fly Fishing Magazine that includes the Eastern and Southwestern Fly Fishing editions and has written for other publications along with having contributed to a number of books. Photography is also one of his pursuits and lends itself very well to his business.

Pat is a pro team or pro staff member for the following companies: Ranger Boats, Evinrude Outboards, Lucas Oil Marine Products, Minn-Kota and Humminbird Electronics through Johnson Outdoors with Dunkin-Lewis of Birmingham, AL. On the conventional gear side he is on the pro-staff of Shimano, Power-Pro. Pat belongs to the National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA). Pat participates in local and regional bass tournaments as well as “fly only” bass tourneys in the western United States. He also fishes extensively for saltwater species. In chasing both fresh and saltwater fish his fishing has taken him across the US from Alaska to Florida, as well as Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, Central America, South America and the South Pacific.

SJRVFF Welcomes Jay Anglin

Jay Anglin started guiding anglers on the creeks and rivers of Michiana in 1996. Eventually founding his company Anglin Outdoors, Jay now guides anglers and hunters 12 months a year. He learned how to fly fish on the streams of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula as a boy and within a year he was tying all of his own flies for future excursions. A Northern Indiana native, Jay honed his fly fishing skills on his hometowns namesake, the Wabash River and its tributaries. Eventually his family relocated to Lake Tippecanoe where fishing was much more convenient.

Jay graduated from Wawasee High School in Syracuse and possesses a biology degree from Northern Michigan University in Marquette (which may be a small miracle in of itself as the relentless distraction of trout, grouse and skiing – among other things – disrupted every waking hour).

He now resides in LaPorte, Indiana with his wife Angie, their five children and two Labradors. He writes a weekly outdoor column and is a sports photographer for the LaPorte Herald Argus.

SJRVFF Welcomes Andrew Carlson

Andrew Carlson spent his fondest days as a child fishing streams for brook trout and smallmouth bass with his father, cultivating a fascination for the aquatic world that inspired dreams of professional research and conservation. He graduated from the University of Minnesota (B.S., Conservation Biology, Fisheries & Wildlife) and South Dakota State University (M.S., Natural Resource Management, Fisheries Science) before beginning his current Ph.D. studies under Dr. William W. Taylor at Michigan State University. Andrew is researching effects of global change (e.g., climate change, land use alteration, groundwater withdrawal) on stream ecosystems in Michigan with emphasis on those that contain brook trout, brown trout, and/or rainbow trout. He is also working with the Michigan DNR to develop a statewide management plan for inland salmonid populations and accompanying inland trout angler survey. Andrew greatly appreciates the opportunity share his research with you tonight.

We need a good head count for dinner planning for our group. They charge us if we tell them too few so get your name in or you might go hungry! RSVP by emailing Don this month at [email protected] or call and leave a message at 574-286-0157. Please respond by 9:00 pm on Friday, September 11.
