This month’s speaker: Brian Gunderman is the Southern Lake Michigan Unit Manager for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources – Fisheries Division. He received his M.S. degree in Biology from Central Michigan University in 2000. Brian held limited-term biologist positions with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service before he was hired by Michigan DNR in 2004. He started his DNR career in Baraga as the Fisheries Biologist for the Western Lake Superior Management Unit. In 2008, he transferred to the Plainwell office and served as the Fisheries Biologist for the St. Joseph River watershed for several years before moving into his current position in April 2016. He oversees field operations in southwest Michigan, including fish population and habitat surveys, habitat improvement projects, fish stocking, and fishing regulation reviews. Brian will be discussing the health of our local fisheries.

BEGINNING FLY TYING
SJRVFF is back and will be once again teaching our always popular and informative “Beginning Fly Tying Class”. SJRVFF will conduct a seven-week class designed to familiarize the tyer with tools, materials, techniques and tying proven fly patterns for the local area and beyond. Classes will be held once a week, on Thursday evenings for seven weeks starting on March 14 th, 2024 and ending on April 25 th , 2024.
Class will start at 6:30 pm and be held at the Near Northwest Neighborhood
Community space located at 1013 Portage Ave. South Bend, In. 46616. This is a beginning class, so no experience is necessary.
The cost for non-members of St. Joseph River Valley Fly Fishers (SJRVFF) is $40.00. For members of SJRVFF the class cost is $10.00. The class is limited to 20 people.
SJRVFF will supply all tools, vise, material, syllabus and in-person instruction. If you have your own vise, tools and light, please feel free to bring them and use them for the class.
